CMA's, Horses, and Kittens... Oh my!

Friday, October 10, 2008

Update: I have added the pics as promised. More pics in the farm gallery.

So many new things are going on since my last blog. I am going to start writing more often to keep everyone up to date and so I can keep up with it all myself!

I have to say the two nominations for the CMA's definitely came as a surprise. Single Of The Year for "Gunpowder" and the ever so coveted Female Vocalist Of The Year. Blake is actually the one that told me as they were announcing them because I live so far out that I can't get local channels. He was watching it live on Good Morning America on the east coast, which aired early. I guess he learned his lesson with the whole ACM ordeal (you remember... I couldn't get a hold of him on the day the nom's were announced and then I got roses. To me just getting to go be a part of the show with two nods and a top 10 under my belt is winning enough. I love my fans so much for making people take notice by buying records and tickets. I owe it all to y’all!

I have been writing a lot lately for the new record and I can't wait to go into the studio. We are cutting in November for hopefully an early 2009 release.

I have added some new animals to the growing brood. Surprise right! I got a horse (regular, not mini) named Playboy. I have wanted to learn how to ride for a long time now but never had the time or the right horse to do it till now. He is considered a paint horse but he is basically one solid color. A redhead with a spicy personality. He also has a playboy bunny branded on his left shoulder. It's so cool. I had to start from scratch since I really wasn’t raised riding but I have been everyday that I have been home for the last two weeks. It is such a workout. I am definitely addicted. Blake is looking to get one too so we can ride together. I hope barrel racing will be somewhere in my future but we will see.

I also adopted a calico kitten named Shelly. (See if you can figure out why I named her that and remember the song theme for names on the farm). She was weaned at 4 weeks old, which is completely too young, so she needed a little TLC, but we got her well and boy is she into everything. She came on the bus last weekend and did great. She has taken over, much to Delilah’s dismay, and is the new queen I guess. At least while she is tiny. She is the cutest thing I have ever seen. She caught her first frog the other day so I bet she will make a great mouser. Speaking of mice... I have a major rat problem like most farms so I have been looking for some barn cats. After getting Shelly, I realized it will be a while before she is big enough to get the job done so I adopted two more. They are 9 months old and a little skittish. I got them from the new charity I am getting involved in called T.A.I.L.S. in Tishomingo, OK (where we live). Blake came with me to get them so I let him name one, which could have been scary knowing him. He named his Maxine (he loves Sammy Kershaw) and I named the other Suzie Q. I have only had them three days and have been gone two of those days so I haven’t really gotten to know them yet. And I’m glad I got them cuz from the looks of things, Shelly may never live outside. She is too spoiled already.

I did take pictures of everything and a video of Shelly but, like everything else, I lost my camera. I think it is at my house somewhere so as soon as I find it will post some new pics. There are some great ones of BS and the Kitten. She loves him and even though he won’t admit it, he loves her too. AWWW... what a softie. D is doing better and actually played with her the other day so there is progress!

I've got a couple REALLY cool shows around the corner. We're doing my 25th birthday celebration at Joe's in Chicago on Nov 1-2. The night of the 2nd will be one of the most fun nights we'll ever have. We're only playing covers! It's our favorite songs by our favorite artists and bands. I'm gonna have some friends show up and help me out, too. And the band guys will each do a song. We may play all night. Ya’ll should make a long weekend of it and come to Saturday’s show and stay for Sunday.

Also, two more shows for Blake and me went on sale a couple days ago. We're playing LaCrosse, WI and Waterloo, IA. We played Waterloo with Dierks a couple years ago and it was a blast. We all went out on the town after the show. It's a great place to see a show. If you're trying to figure out where to come see us, that's a good one.

Anyway. I guess that is it for now. Hunting season is here so good luck to everyone. I hope to get a big one this year with my bow. I'll let ya know!

Don’t forget, love a shelter pet,

ML

I was going to guess "Shelly" after Shelly West singing "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma"... the line "I got calico cat and a two room flat"...especially since she and Blake sang that song on the CMT 100 Greatest Duets concert!

I was wondering when you were going to include kittens/cats in your collection of animals for your farm. And, I agree with sarahc730...kitten named after Shelly West.."YTRGMO" ... "calico cat"..falling
for Blake during that show...etc...
We love you...can't wait for the new album in 2009!
See you at Joe's on Nov 1 and 2!!!!

Congrats on the nom's! AND the newest additions :) You will enjoy riding Playboy too, i've been riding my Lil Bit since I was 9 & still can't get enough (at 21). It is a workout, and don't wait too long in between rides..it can really make your butt hurt!! haha. Anywho, I know this is totally off subject but me & my babe went out this past weekend & it turns out this small town "richie" sub division bar has karaoke...with all of your songs..Guess who's pretty far gone to get on stage?! HA! I sang Kerosene, and even tho I was drunk, I shook the Whole time. I was soo nervous. But everyone got quiet while I sang & cheered after, so it felt good. I don't know how you do it. But you are by far my hero..and hopefully I'll get to sing ya some more next time we go. :):) Tell your momma Laci says hi, from hlsr (she'll know)
All my love,
Lace

thats so great to hear about the new little ones! i thought about you the other day when my friend told me her puppy "Chico Bel Grande" ran away, she told me on friday that he was crossing a road somewhere in Ada, when a driver hit him. and this is where i thought of you, the driver actually got out, got the puppy, read his name tag, and took him to his vet to get him some help. unfortunately he passed away, but it was so thoughtful how the driver actually had the heart to see how the puppy was doing. it just made me think of how you picked up Jessi and Waylon Shooter. i wish everyone were like that! we sure would have a lot more animals on this beautiful planet! so anyhow, i thought you'd like to know that there are people out there who care as much as you do!

i guess i'll be seeing you for Jayson and Michelle's wedding. im pretty nervous about singing so please dont make me mess up! and tell Blake to be nice or i'll get Dorothy on him! = ) my husband cant go because of course, he's HUNTING, and he would know more people at the wedding than me! if you two arent playing around Ada sometime soon, you should do a little jam session at the reception! it would be great! oh, by the way, you were AMAZING at the OK state fair. loved it!

see you soon!
Haley

I'm so HAPPY about your CMA nominations!! and also love hearing about your new furry family members. If I lived on a farm I'd be doing the same thing. Having three big dogs that live in the house is about all we can do living in the city, but if I could I've have a whole herd of dogs, kinda like Cesar Milan. Thank you Miranda, for having such a big heart and taking all these little ones in to your home.

Way to go on the nominations!!!! Hope the barn cats work out, they did for us. We have a few "extra" cats that do a geat job and we haven't seen any yucky rodents in a very long time. Our farm hasn't expanded to horses yet, but with any luck my daughter Madison will get her way with daddy and have one before long. lol.
From a fellow hunter good luck this season on baggin' the big one!!!
We loved seeing you in concert and the M&G at our WV state fair. It was great!!!
We will be seeing you again this weekend in Pikeville, Ky. And Madison will be seeing you with her daddy in tow for the M&G!!! :)

Have fun learning to ride, always something I've wanted to do but don't have much of a chance here in NW Ohio. Congrats on the nominations, you deserve Femal Vocalist more than anyone- you are REAL country... and your songs/lyrics have helped me through some tough stuff lately.

I can't wait to see you in Chicago @ Joe's- I will be celebrating my 25th birthday that weekend as well, and tickets to your concert is the BEST present I am getting this year! I just wish I could stay for the Sunday show as well!

Good luck hunting- I am headed out again tomorrow morn... hopefully I will see that big buck I've been waitin for!

I have to guess the name of your new cat is from the song by Shelly West and David Frizzell - "You're the Reason God made Oklahoma". I have to say that when I first saw the Duets show on CMT and watched you and Blake sing together - there was complete chemistry. I even said to my husband that something was going on because you both were mesmerized with each other. You did an awesome job together and I have downloaded the song to my iPod.
You will enjoy the horses - we have five of our own and they are like family. Not to mention, the four dogs and six barn cats :)
Keep it up - oh, Congratulations!
Dawn from Ohio...

I've been riding all my life and love it...I would strongly suggest you look into Cowboy Mounted Shooting ck out http://www.texassmokinguns.com/

We were just in Ardmore OK for a competition this past weekend

Enjoy learning to ride and remember it is all about trust and respect between you and your mount.

Also - free range chickens... sometimes become a free range buffet for the coyotes...
