Although I have uploaded videos of TV appearances of Ran for a limited time only (and I did remove the files right when the demand lowered simply to avoid lawsuits), it is actually discouraged to do so and it also includes asking for bootleg concert MP3s/CDs, etc. copying commercially recorded material, etc. as it is illegal due to the copyright law and the DMCA. If you trade or download illegally way too much, copyright holders (for example Sony) can file a lawsuit which first starts with a cease and desist order. This is the reason why Bev asks us not to duplicate Ran's indie album although it is out of print is because it IS under copyright.

A master copy of the DMCA can be downloaded here

The copyright law can be viewed here

If anything that violates copyright laws happen on this forum, please PM the mods or Bev.

Here's the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act for another part of the copyright law in the US.

The copyright laws are also the reason why downloading music, etc. off of Limewire, Frostwire, etc. is illegal.

For information on bootleg/counterfeit/pirate recordings: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bootleg_recording

Or you can read this book: Bootleg! The Secret History of the Other Recording Industry by Clinton Heylin.

etree.org and archive.org do have lists of bands that do allow bootlegging concerts, sharing bootleg concert MP3s online, etc. and most of the bands are either jam band, Adult Alternative, Americana, bluegrass, psychedelic rock, and other such genres. In other words, you can pass concert bootlegs of Grateful Dead and related bands and solo concert recordings from the members, Jack Johnson, Hank III, Matt Nathanson, Jorma Kaukonen solo and bands he has played in such as Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna, etc., Bruce Hornsby, Dave Matthews, Allman Brothers, etc. but not Ran or pretty much any hitmaker in pop, country, etc. Even the Smashing Pumpkins allow bootlegging their concerts.
