The Academy of Country Music surprised Miranda Lambert with the video of the year trophy during a country radio event on Saturday evening for her video “White Liar.”

Lambert thought she was there to take photos with the broadcasters and then found out she was the guest of honor.

“It was a total surprise,” Lambert said. “I really wasn’t sure what I was coming to do. I was afraid I was going to have to talk in public. I can sing in public, but I can’t talk in public. Then they presented me with the award. I was looking at the names in the category, and it was really anybody’s game. That’s why they call it the top five.”

(Taylor Swift’s “You Belong with Me,” Brad Paisley’s “Welcome to the Future,” Randy Houser’s “Boots On” and Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” were the other nominees.)

Lambert, Shelton, Adkins win early ACM Awards

LAS VEGAS — Things just got hotter for Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton, country music's "it" couple.

Miranda Lambert won the Academy of Country Music Award for best video of the year for "White Liar" and Shelton won event of the year with Trace Adkins for their hit song "Hillbilly Bone." The first two ACM Awards were given out Saturday night at the MGM Grand.

Turns out it was Lambert who convinced Shelton to pitch the idea for "Hillbilly Bone" to Adkins.

It was the third ACM win for Adkins and the first for Shelton, who says the award finally makes him feel like he's been accepted in Nashville.

Lambert is up for five other awards, including album of the year for "Revolution," during Sunday's televised ceremony.
